Traditional bride V.S Modern Bride

Traditional brides generally tend to wear decorative accessories, heavily embroidered dresses, bright colours and make-up to stand out as the bride on their special day.

Jewellery on the forehead is very traditional and usually only worn by the bride. This is known as a Tikka. Many non-brides also wear a tikka nowadays and it is quite common to wear at a wedding.

A noticeable tradition that some brides like to have is a side plait with decorative hair accessories along the bottom. In Punjabi this is called a Parandhi.

Brides also wear a long length bindi which is diamonte stickers that follow the shape of the eyebrows and in the centre of the forehead. This decorates the face and is only worn by the bride. Non-brides also wear a bindi and usually just in the centre of the eyebrows.

Many brides in the current century have begun to use an elegant and simple approach to their appearance rather than traditional. The images below show a rough idea of what dress and accessories I think brides would like to use to modernise their look.

Being a modern bride can still interpret colour into her dress and accessories. This can be shades of pastel colours to create a warm and summary look or bright and bold to create an eye-catching look.

The image above shows the model wearing jewellery on one side of her hair. This is called a side matha patti or pakeezah jhoomar, which only follows one side of the head as opposed to both sides. Most brides like to have a side parting in their hair rather than traditionally in the middle, which is why this trend has now been quite popular amongst modern brides.

Silver diamante jewellery and pearls are quite popular and makes the bride look elegant and sophisticated.
